Chesapeake Resident Free Full Service Card: For Chesapeake residents, property owners, business owners, Chesapeake City employees, Chesapeake Public School employees, or retired city employees. (Proof required)

Virginia Resident Full Service Card: For Virginia residents who do not live in the City of Chesapeake. A card with an annual non-refundable fee of $35.00. Provides same borrowing privileges as Chesapeake residents -- including ILLs, reserves and transfers from other libraries.

Virginia Resident Free Reciprocal Card: For Virginia residents who do not live in the City of Chesapeake. A free card allowing up to six items to be checked out. ILLs, reserves and transfers from other libraries are not available. (Only residents of Virginia are eligible for a free reciprocal card.)

Out-of-state Full Service Card: For out-of-state residents. A card with an annual non-refundable fee of $35.00. Provides same borrowing privileges as Chesapeake residents -- including ILLs, reserves and transfers from other libraries.

Proof of current address is required of all applicants and on your first visit to any Chesapeake library, we will
need to verify your address. For verification purposes, we will accept a driver's license, a bill, car
registration, or your checkbook, as long as it has your current address. Library cards need to be renewed
periodically.  To renew, please show proof of address.

How the on-line library card process works

Four easy steps...

1. Click "Apply Now".

2. Fill in the on-line form ... copy down the temporary library card number

3. On your first visit to the library go to the circulation desk to obtain your card

4. Bring required proof of address to the Library on that first visit
